Kingsway Lane Fire

Location: Camas Valley, OR

Date: Saturday, July 13, 2024

Time: Approximately 10:26 am

This morning, crews from multiple agencies, including the Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA), Coos Forest Protective Association (CFPA), Tenmile Rural Fire District, Camas Valley Rural Fire District, Lookingglass Rural Fire District, Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO), Oregon State Police, and the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), responded to a reported quarter-acre grass fire along Highway 42 between mile markers 58 and 59.

Incident Details:

Rural firefighters were first on the scene, identifying a fast-moving grass fire along the highway. The fire was quickly advancing uphill towards homes, prompting Level 3 evacuations for 2 homes in the Kingsway Lane area in coordination with DCSO.

Thanks to the swift and collaborative efforts of all firefighters, the fire's forward spread was rapidly knocked down, eliminating threats to nearby structures. Consequently, all evacuations were lifted.

Current Status:

Rural firefighters have returned to their patrol areas.

As of 2:12 p.m., DFPA crews have the fire 100% trailed and plumbed, with 30% mopped up. They will remain on scene until the area is cleared of heat and smoke and transitioned to patrol status.

Caution: Please exercise caution when driving in the area, as firefighters continue to work on the side of the highway.

The cause of this fire is human-caused and is currently under active investigation. This will be the only DFPA release for this fire.

THERE ARE NO CURRENT EVACUATIONS IN PLACE.
