Fire season for Douglas District starts June 6, 2025, with moderate restrictions and IFPL I to prevent wildfires.

2025 Fire Season Officially Begins June 6

The Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA) has declared the start of the 2025 fire season beginning at 12:01 AM on Friday, June 6, 2025. This declaration includes all private, county, state, and Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) lands protected by DFPA, which covers the Lookingglass area.

Current Fire Season Restrictions

  • Public Use Restriction Level: Moderate
  • Industrial Fire Precaution Level (IFPL): Level 1

These restrictions are implemented to reduce the risk of wildfires during hot and dry conditions. With fire season in effect, specific outdoor activities are restricted, and increased safety precautions are now required.

Key Reminders for the Community

  • Debris Burning: Prohibited for the duration of fire season.
  • Equipment Operation: All equipment used outdoors must have approved spark arresters. Use is restricted during certain hours and may be subject to shutdowns under high fire danger.
  • Defensible Space: Property owners are encouraged to clear dry grass, brush, and flammable materials within at least 30 feet of their homes. Maintain access to water sources and tools such as hoses, shovels, and fire extinguishers.
