Community Notice and Apology
Lookingglass Rural Fire District (LRFD) would like to inform our community that today we are hosting a Umpqua Community College (UCC) Emergency Vehicle Operations (EVOC) course at the Lookingglass station. This training is utilizing our cone course and includes participation from several Lookingglass volunteers.
The EVOC course is designed to train new emergency vehicle operators on critical skills such as understanding vehicle limitations, turning radius, stopping distance, and safe apparatus handling. This training is an important part of ensuring our members operate emergency vehicles safely and effectively while serving the community.
At approximately 9:45 a.m., one of the fire apparatus experienced a mechanical issue that caused the air horn to sound continuously. Due to the quick response of the EVOC instructor, the issue was promptly identified and resolved.
We sincerely apologize to our neighbors and community members for the unexpected noise and disruption this incident may have caused.
As LRFD continues to place a stronger emphasis on training, we are also exploring mitigation measures to reduce the impact of our daily operations. These efforts include evaluating the planting of trees along our perimeter fence to help reduce both noise and light associated with training and emergency response activities.
We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as we transition into a more training-focused operational mindset. This commitment to training is essential to improving safety, preparedness, and the level of service we provide to the Lookingglass community.
