DFPA Increases Fire Restrictions Effective July 3

2026 fire season in Douglas District: moderate restrictions start July 3; IFPL level 2 begins July 6. Stay safe!

Lookingglass Rural Fire District is sharing the following important information from the Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA).

Due to increasing temperatures and continued drying of vegetation, Public Use Restrictions will increase to MODERATE beginning 12:01 a.m. on Friday, July 3, 2026, on all private, county, state, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and applicable BLM-protected lands within the Douglas District.

Additionally, the Industrial Fire Precaution Level (IFPL) will increase to Level 2 effective 12:01 a.m. on Monday, July 6, 2026, for regulated use areas throughout the Douglas Forest Protection District.

What Moderate Public Use Restrictions Mean

The following activities are only allowed before 1:00 p.m. or after 8:00 p.m.:

• Non-industrial power saw use

• Cutting, grinding, or welding of metal

• Cutting, trimming, or mowing dried or cured grass

• Operating power-driven machinery for non-industrial property improvement or development on private lands

Industrial Fire Precaution Level 2

Beginning July 6, industrial operations within regulated areas are limited to 8:00 p.m. through 1:00 p.m. for activities including:

• Power saw operations (except at loading sites)

• Feller-bunchers with rotary head saws

• Cable yarding

• Blasting

• Welding, cutting, or grinding of metal

Fourth of July Reminder

As you celebrate Independence Day, please remember that fireworks are prohibited on all lands protected by DFPA, including private, county, state, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and applicable BLM-managed lands within the Douglas District.

Even a single spark can quickly ignite dry vegetation and lead to a rapidly spreading wildfire. The safest way to celebrate is by attending a professional fireworks display and leaving personal fireworks at home.

Our firefighters ask everyone to do their part to help protect our homes, forests, farms, and communities this holiday weekend.

Please remember:

* Never leave equipment running in dry grass.

* Carry a fire extinguisher and shovel when working outdoors.

* Report smoke or fire immediately by calling 911.

* Continue to use extreme caution with any activity that could create a spark.

For additional information on current fire restrictions, visit DFPA’s website at www.dfpa.net or call (541) 672-6507 during normal business hours. Please note that DFPA administrative offices will be closed Friday, July 3, 2026, in observance of the holiday.

Thank you for helping us keep Lookingglass and all of Douglas County safe this fire season.
