Douglas Forest Protective Association Ends 2025 Fire Season

The Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA) has officially declared the end of the 2025 fire season for all lands under their protection and management, effective Friday, October 10th, 2025, at 9:01 a.m.
This decision follows recent wetting rains and a steady cooling trend across the region. With the official close of fire season, all DFPA public and industrial fire restrictions are no longer in effect.
A current list of private industrial landowner restrictions and closures can be found at:

Debris Burning Information
Backyard debris burning outside of incorporated city limits is now permitted without a DFPA burn permit. However, local fire restrictions may still apply, and residents are strongly encouraged to contact their local fire department before burning.
For property owners conducting logging slash burning, a DFPA burn permit is still required. Permits can be obtained by calling DFPA directly at 541-672-6507.
If you are planning to burn within the Lookingglass Rural Fire District, please contact us in advance. With sufficient notice, LRFD will do our best to have a crew on-site during your burn to help ensure safety and control.
Safety Precautions
Even though fire season has officially ended, fire danger can still return quickly during dry and windy fall days. To reduce risk:
- Clear a safe fire trail around your burn pile before ignition.
- Keep water and hand tools readily available.
- Never leave a fire unattended, and verify it is completely cold before leaving.
- Remember: If a fire escapes your control, you may be held financially responsible for suppression costs and damages.
Those planning to recreate in forested areas should be aware that private industrial and public land managers may still have restrictions in place. Always check with the appropriate agency before entering or burning on those lands.
A Message of Thanks
The Douglas Forest Protective Association and Lookingglass Rural Fire District would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the community for its cooperation and vigilance throughout the 2025 fire season.
Your continued commitment to safe burning practices and fire awareness helps protect lives, property, and the beautiful landscapes we all share.
