Fire Danger Level Reduced – Holiday Weekend Fire Safety

The Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA) has announced that the fire danger level will be reduced from Extreme to High, effective Thursday, August 28, 2025, at 12:01 a.m. on all lands protected by DFPA.

This adjustment is based on improving weather conditions, including cooler daytime temperatures, higher relative humidity, and better overnight moisture recovery. While this reduction is encouraging, the High Fire Danger Level still carries significant restrictions and responsibilities.

What This Means for Our Community:

  • Outdoor Debris Burning remains prohibited.
  • Equipment Use: Certain restrictions remain in place for equipment that may generate sparks or heat.
  • Vehicles: Avoid driving or parking on dry vegetation.
  • Smoking: Permitted only in enclosed vehicles or designated areas—never on dry grass or brush.
  • Campfires: Only allowed in designated sites and must be fully extinguished before leaving.

Holiday Weekend Fire Safety Reminder

As we enter the holiday weekend, Lookingglass Rural Fire District reminds everyone to stay vigilant:

  • Keep a water source, shovel, or fire extinguisher nearby when working or recreating outdoors.
  • Properly dispose of cigarettes and matches.
  • Exercise caution with fireworks—many areas prohibit their use, and they remain a leading cause of wildfires.
  • If you see smoke or fire, report it immediately by calling 911.

Our community has worked hard to prevent wildfires this summer, and with continued caution, we can ensure a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend for everyone.
