Fire Danger Level Reduced to HIGH on 8/28/2025.

The Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA) has announced a reduction in fire danger levels across the Douglas District. With anticipated decreases in temperatures, higher relative humidity, and improved overnight moisture recovery, the fire danger level will be lowered from EXTREME to HIGH.
This adjustment will take effect on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at 12:01 a.m. Public Use Restrictions (PURs) will also be reduced to HIGH on all private, county, state, and Bureau of Indian Affairs lands within the district.
Key Restrictions Under HIGH Fire Danger
- Power Equipment Use: Non-industrial use of chainsaws, welding, grinding, mowing cured grass, and other power-driven machinery is allowed before 10 a.m. and after 8 p.m.
- Debris Burning: Backyard debris burning and the use of burn barrels remain prohibited.
- Open Fires: Campfires, cooking, and warming fires are not allowed except at designated, approved sites.
- Smoking: Prohibited while traveling, except in vehicles on improved roads, boats on the water, or designated areas.
- Fireworks & Other Devices: Fireworks, exploding targets, tracer ammunition, and sky lanterns remain prohibited.
- Barbecues: Charcoal and pellet barbecues are only permitted at fully developed residential home sites, with a charged garden hose or fire extinguisher readily available. Portable cooking stoves using bottled or liquefied fuels are allowed elsewhere.
- Motor Vehicles: Travel is restricted to improved roads clear of flammable vegetation. Vehicles on forest roads must carry fire tools, including an axe, shovel, and either one gallon of water or a 2½-pound or larger fire extinguisher. Motorcycles must carry at least one gallon of water or a 2½-pound extinguisher.
- Electric Fences: Controllers must be certified by a recognized testing laboratory or state agency and operated in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
The Industrial Fire Precaution Levels (IFPLs) will remain at Level 3 district-wide.
Although restrictions are easing, it is important to remember that fire season is still in effect. Community members are urged to use caution and recreate responsibly, especially during the upcoming Labor Day weekend.
