Fire restrictions in Douglas District change to moderate, effective October 5, 2026, at midnight. Level 2 IFPL increase noted.

Fire Danger & Restrictions Increase to MODERATE

Effective Monday, October 5, 2026, at 12:01 a.m.

The Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA) has announced an increase in fire danger restrictions across the Douglas District due to increasing temperatures and decreasing relative humidity.

Effective 12:01 a.m. Monday, October 5, 2026:

Public Use Restrictions: MODERATE

Industrial Fire Precaution Level (IFPL): LEVEL 2

These restrictions apply to lands protected by DFPA, including private, county, state, and Bureau of Indian Affairs lands within the Douglas District. IFPL Level 2 applies within regulated use areas DG-1, DG-2, UA-1, and UA-2 and applicable forestlands within one-eighth mile of those areas.

Moderate Public Use Restrictions

Under MODERATE restrictions, the following activities are only permitted before 1:00 p.m. or after 8:00 p.m.:

  • Non-industrial power saw use
  • Cutting, grinding, or welding metal
  • Cutting, trimming, or mowing dried or cured grass
  • Operating power-driven machinery for non-industrial property improvement or development on private lands

Vehicle Restrictions

Motor vehicles, including motorcycles and ATVs, are limited to improved roads free of flammable vegetation, except when being used for the cultivation or harvest of agricultural crops.

Vehicles traveling on forestlands must carry:

  • An axe
  • A shovel
  • At least one gallon of water OR a 2.5-pound or larger fire extinguisher

ATVs must carry a 2.5-pound or larger ABC fire extinguisher.

All other off-road driving is restricted at all times.

Industrial Fire Precaution Level 2

Under IFPL Level 2, the following industrial activities may only operate between 8:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.:

  • Power saws, except power saws operating at loading sites
  • Feller-bunchers with rotary head saws
  • Cable yarding
  • Blasting
  • Welding, cutting, or grinding metal

Fire Season Is Still in Effect

Lookingglass Rural Fire District reminds residents that even though we are into October and have experienced cooler temperatures and some precipitation, fire season is still in effect.

Fire conditions can change quickly. Increasing temperatures, lower relative humidity, wind, and drying vegetation can increase the potential for a fire to start and spread.

Residents should not assume that cooler fall weather means restrictions have ended. Always check current restrictions before mowing dry vegetation, using power equipment, conducting metal work, operating equipment in forested areas, or beginning any activity capable of producing heat or sparks.

Know Before You Go.

Following current restrictions helps reduce human-caused fires and protects our community, firefighters, property, and surrounding forestlands.

For current restrictions and additional information, visit DFPA at www.dfpa.net or contact the DFPA office at 541-672-6507, excluding federal holidays.
