Fire Restrictions Increasing July 1, 2025 — Information from Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA)

Effective Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at 12:01 a.m., the Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA) will implement changes to both Industrial Fire Precaution Levels (IFPL) and Public Use Restrictions (PURs) to address the heightened wildfire risk across the region.
These changes apply to all lands protected by DFPA, including those managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), as well as private, county, state, and Bureau of Indian Affairs lands within the Douglas District.
Industrial Fire Precaution Level (IFPL) Increases to Level 2
This affects all regulated use areas (DG-1, DG-2, UA-1, UA-2) and extends to all forestland within one-eighth mile of those areas.
Under IFPL Level 2, the following operations are restricted to the hours of 8:00 PM to 1:00 PM:
- Use of power saws (except at designated loading sites, which may operate all day)
- Feller-bunchers equipped with rotary head saws
- Cable yarding operations
- Blasting
- Welding, cutting, or grinding of metal
Exceptions to these restrictions must be requested in writing and approved by the State Forester or an authorized representative. These restrictions will remain in place until DFPA issues an update or rescinds the order.
Public Use Restrictions Raised to HIGH
For the general public, the following non-industrial activities are only permitted before 10:00 AM or after 8:00 PM:
- Use of power saws for cutting firewood or vegetation
- Metal cutting, grinding, or welding
- Trimming, mowing, or cutting dried/cured grass
- Operation of any power-driven machinery for development or improvement on private property
Fireworks Prohibited in Wildland Areas
Fireworks are illegal in wildland areas during fire season.
Those found in violation may be cited and held liable for fire suppression costs and damages. Please celebrate responsibly and help us prevent avoidable wildfires.
