Fire Season Officially Begins May 30, 2026

Lookingglass Rural Fire District is sharing the following information released by the Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA) regarding the start of the 2026 fire season within Douglas County.
DFPA has officially announced that fire season will begin Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 12:01 AM. This declaration includes all private, county, state, and Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) lands within the Douglas District.
At the same time, Public Use Restrictions will also go into effect and will initially be set at LOW.
These restrictions are implemented to help reduce the risk of human-caused wildfires as vegetation continues to dry and temperatures begin to rise heading into summer.
Important Fire Season Restrictions
The following restrictions will be in effect on private, county, state, and BIA lands within the Douglas District:
- Backyard debris burning and burn barrels are prohibited
- Fireworks, exploding targets, tracer ammunition, and sky lanterns are prohibited
- Open fires, including campfires, warming fires, and cooking fires, are only allowed at designated locations
- Smoking while traveling is prohibited except in vehicles on improved roads, boats on the water, or designated locations
- Motor vehicles are restricted to improved roads that are clear of flammable vegetation
- Charcoal and pellet BBQs are only permitted at maintained residential homesites with proper fire protection immediately available
- Additional restrictions on mowing, welding, cutting metal, generator use, and power saw operation may occur as fire danger levels increase
Industrial fire regulations and Industrial Fire Precaution Level 1 (IFPL I) will also go into effect throughout the Douglas District beginning May 30, 2026.

Campfires are only permitted at approved designated sites, including:

- Amacher Park
- Douglas County Fairgrounds
- Pass Creek Campground
- Stanton Park
- Chief Miwaleta Campground
- Whistler’s Bend Campground
Private Campgrounds
- Seven Feathers RV Resort
- Umpqua Riverfront RV Park & Boat Ramp

Current fire danger levels and restrictions may change throughout the season depending on weather and fuel conditions. Residents are encouraged to remain informed and practice wildfire prevention at all times.
