Live Fire Training Exercise – Joint Agency “Burn to Learn”
The Lookingglass Rural Fire District (LRFD) will have personnel in attendance for a live fire “Burn to Learn” training exercise hosted by the Roseburg Fire Department on Saturday, November 15, 2025.
Location: 859 W. Lookingglass Road
Start Time: Approximately 8:00 a.m.
Duration: Throughout the day
This training will be a joint agency exercise involving:
- Roseburg Fire Department
- Central Douglas County Fire & Rescue
- Lookingglass Rural Fire District
Training together in a realistic, live-fire environment allows our agencies to:
- Strengthen interoperability and communication between departments
- Reinforce firefighter safety and survival practices
- Practice rapid fire attack techniques and observe fire behavior
- Provide real-world, hands-on experience in a controlled setting
These skills are essential to ensuring that our firefighters are prepared to respond safely and effectively to real emergencies.
Impact on Nearby Residents
Residents and property owners near 859 W. Lookingglass Road may notice activity in the area throughout the day. Please be aware of the following:
- Smoke and Flames:
Visible smoke and flames will be present as part of the training scenarios. This is a planned, supervised, and controlled exercise conducted by certified fire instructors. There is no cause for alarm. - Noise:
Expect increased noise from fire apparatus, equipment, and instructor communications during the training period. - Air Quality:
Individuals with respiratory sensitivities, health concerns, or pets may wish to keep windows closed while the training is underway. - Safety Perimeter:
For everyone’s safety, please do not enter the training area or approach the scene. Access will be restricted to authorized training personnel only.
Firefighters may remain at the training location for an extended time after the live fire evolutions are complete to conduct overhaul and site cleanup. Throughout the event, safety will remain the top priority for all participating agencies.
