Lookingglass Rural Fire District is proud to recognize Cadet Brooklyn Phelps for successfully passing the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) examination, an important milestone in her journey toward becoming a licensed Emergency Medical Technician.

Brooklyn completed her EMT-Basic education while attending Roseburg High School through the school's partnership with Umpqua Community College (UCC). This exceptional program allows high school students to complete college-level coursework with tuition covered by Roseburg High School, giving them the opportunity to earn valuable certifications before graduating from high school. By earning college credits and professional certifications while still in high school, students can begin their careers without many of the costs associated with waiting until after graduation to enroll in college.

As a member of Lookingglass Rural Fire District's Cadet Program, Brooklyn has demonstrated a strong commitment to learning and serving her community. In addition to her classroom education, she has participated in the Recruit Hippo program, helping staff the fire station while gaining paid, hands-on experience alongside LRFD firefighters and emergency medical personnel. This experience has allowed her to further develop the knowledge, skills, and professionalism needed to succeed in emergency services.

By successfully passing the National Registry examination, Brooklyn has earned her Nationally Registered EMT (NREMT) certification. Once she turns 18 years old, she will be eligible to apply for her Oregon EMT-Basic license and begin serving the citizens of Oregon as a licensed Emergency Medical Technician.

Brooklyn's accomplishment is a reflection of her dedication, hard work, and commitment to serving others. It also highlights the value of programs such as the Roseburg High School/Umpqua Community College EMT pathway and Recruit Hippo, which provide students with opportunities to gain education, certifications, and meaningful work experience while still in high school.
