Lookingglass Rural Fire District Scholarship Opportunities

Lookingglass Rural Fire District (LRFD) is proud to announce the opening of two scholarships for individuals dedicated to public service and pursuing a career in fire science. These scholarships are intended to support the educational goals of our volunteers while strengthening the future of our fire service community.

Scholarship Details

  • Scholarship #1: $15,998
  • Scholarship #2: $15,989
    Both scholarships are designed to cover the full cost of a two-year Fire Science program, including tuition, fees, books, and lab costs.

Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for a scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be an active volunteer with LRFD
  • Be in good standing with the department
  • Commit to maintaining strong academic and volunteer performance

Academic Requirements

Recipients must:

  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.4
  • Earn no failing grades
  • Remain in good standing with LRFD throughout the program

Application Process

Applicants must submit the following:

  • A 500-word essay on “The Importance of Volunteer Fire Districts in Rural Communities”
  • A cover letter with current contact information

Submit applications by email to Captain@lookingglassfire.org with the subject line: Scholarship Essay.

Deadlines and Selection Process

  • Submission Deadline: September 30, 2025
  • Interviews: Week of October 7, 2025
  • Final Selections Announced: October 31, 2025

If there are not enough qualified applicants, one of the scholarships may be held and awarded at a later date.
