LRFD Awarded OSFM Wildland Staffing Grant

Lookingglass Rural Fire District is proud to announce that we have once again been awarded the Oregon State Fire Marshal Wildland Staffing Grant for the 2026 fire season.

This grant helps local fire agencies increase staffing during Oregon’s wildfire season, improving rapid initial attack capability and overall community protection. LRFD has been awarded this grant every year since the program began, and we are grateful for the continued support from the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office.

With this funding, LRFD plans to begin summer staffing on July 1st, with staffing hours from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM. These hours mirror Douglas Forest Protective Association staffing during the most critical time periods of fire season.

Our goal is to staff two volunteers each day during fire season. This will help ensure the station is staffed during high-risk periods, allow for quicker response times, and improve our ability to reach fires early while they are still small.

LRFD would like to thank the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office for this opportunity to better serve the Lookingglass community and strengthen our wildfire response readiness.
