Merry Christmas from the Volunteers at  Lookingglass Rural Fire District!

Dear Lookingglass Community,

As we embrace the holiday season with joy, warmth, and togetherness, the Lookingglass Rural Fire District wishes you a safe, festive, and Merry Christmas!

This year, we are grateful for your unwavering support, which motivates us to serve and protect our wonderful community. During this special time, we want to remind everyone of the importance of fire safety to ensure a joyful holiday without incident.

Holiday Fire Safety Tips

  • Candles: Never leave candles unattended, and always extinguish them before leaving the room or going to bed. Consider using flameless LED candles for added safety.
  • Christmas Trees: Keep live trees well-watered and away from heat sources like fireplaces or space heaters. Check your lights for frayed wires and turn them off when you’re not home.
  • Cooking Safety: Stay in the kitchen while cooking, especially when using the stovetop. Keep flammable items like oven mitts and dish towels away from open flames.
  • Smoke Alarms: Test your smoke alarms and replace the batteries if needed. Working smoke alarms save lives!

Lithium-Ion Battery Safety

As more households rely on devices powered by lithium-ion batteries, it’s important to understand how to use and store them safely:

  • Charging: Use only the charger provided with your device or one certified by the manufacturer. Avoid overcharging devices or charging them overnight.
  • Storage: Store batteries in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and flammable materials. Avoid puncturing or crushing them.
  • Signs of Damage: If a battery becomes hot, emits an odor, or shows signs of swelling, discontinue use immediately and dispose of it at a proper recycling facility.
  • E-Bikes & Scooters: If you have electric scooters, bikes, or other large devices, avoid charging them in confined spaces like garages or basements.

By following these fire safety tips, you can help keep your family and home safe while enjoying the holiday season to its fullest.

From all of us at LRFD, thank you for making Lookingglass such a wonderful place to serve. We wish you and your loved ones a joyful Christmas and a bright, hopeful New Year ahead!

With warm holiday wishes,
Your Volunteers at the Lookingglass Rural Fire District
