New PPE Extractor Installed and Ready for Use

Lookingglass Rural Fire District is pleased to announce that our new Ready Rack Extractor has arrived, been installed, and is officially ready for use at the LRFD station.
Protecting the People Behind the Gear
Firefighter turnout gear is exposed to smoke, soot, and other hazardous contaminants while our volunteers respond to fires and other emergencies. These contaminants can remain on protective clothing long after an incident is over, making proper cleaning an important part of firefighter health and safety.
Unlike a standard household washing machine, our new extractor is specifically designed for cleaning firefighter protective equipment. It uses specialized wash cycles and controlled washing conditions to remove contaminants while helping protect the materials and components that make turnout gear effective.
Having this equipment at our station allows LRFD to properly clean contaminated turnout gear in-house. This helps reduce our volunteers' continued exposure to fireground contaminants while allowing us to better maintain our protective equipment and return it to service for the next emergency.
Made Possible Through Community Support
This important improvement would not have been possible without the support of the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians, who provided a generous $5,000 donation toward LRFD's PPE cleaning project.
LRFD sincerely thanks the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians for their continued investment in the health and safety of our volunteer firefighters.
For a small volunteer fire district, support like this has an impact far beyond the walls of our station. Taking better care of our firefighters and the equipment that protects them means keeping more volunteers healthy, prepared, and ready to respond when our neighbors need help.
Every improvement we make to firefighter safety and readiness ultimately strengthens our ability to serve Lookingglass.
This is an investment in our volunteers, an investment in our department, and an investment in the safety and readiness of the community we are proud to serve.
