We are proud to announce that volunteers from Glide Rural Fire Protection District, Tenmile Rural Fire District, and Lookingglass Rural Fire District have successfully completed the NFPA Rope Rescue Awareness and Operations training. The course took place over three days—Friday, February 28; Saturday, March 1; and Sunday, March 2—demonstrating their dedication to enhancing their technical rescue skills and readiness to serve their communities.

This intensive training required 30 hours of instruction, covering both classroom education and hands-on practical exercises. Volunteers learned to assess hazards, inspect and maintain equipment, and perform basic rope rescue techniques under guided supervision.

The NFPA Rope Rescue training is divided into competency levels:

Awareness Level:

Focuses on recognizing rope rescue situations, understanding hazards, and activating emergency response. Volunteers at this level do not perform rope rescues but play a crucial role in scene assessment and resource coordination.

Operations Level:

Expands on awareness training, allowing volunteers to actively participate in rope rescues. This includes setting up rope systems, assisting in victim extrication, and executing basic rescues under the supervision of technician-level responders.

Congratulations to all the volunteers who successfully passed! Your applications for certification will be submitted soon, marking a significant milestone in your training and service.
