September 11 — A Day of Remembrance and Unity










On September 11, 2001, our nation was forever changed. Nearly 3,000 lives were lost in the attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and aboard United Airlines Flight 93. As we honor this solemn day, we remember not only the lives taken, but also the bravery and sacrifice shown by first responders, military personnel, and everyday citizens.

- Passengers and Crew of Flight 93: 40
The passengers aboard United Airlines Flight 93 displayed extraordinary heroism. Upon learning of the other hijackings, they took action to prevent their plane from reaching its intended target. Their sacrifice saved countless lives on the ground, though they gave their own in the process.
In the years that have followed, the toll has continued to grow. More than 1,400 rescue and recovery workers have died from illnesses linked to toxic exposures at Ground Zero.
Timeline of the Tragic Events — September 11, 2001
- 8:46 AM – American Airlines Flight 11 crashes into the North Tower of the World Trade Center.
- 9:03 AM – United Airlines Flight 175 crashes into the South Tower.
- 9:37 AM – American Airlines Flight 77 crashes into the Pentagon.
- 9:59 AM – The South Tower collapses.
- 10:03 AM – United Airlines Flight 93 crashes into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after passengers heroically attempt to retake control from the hijackers.
- 10:28 AM – The North Tower collapses.
